Let’s break down some of the highlights from his latest market update. Bitcoin to hit $500,000 by next year PlanB’s first prediction is based on his famous stock-to-flow model. Last cycle, the model called for a $50,000 Bitcoin (which happened, obviously) This cycle, the model is predicting Bitcoin will hit $500,000. And the cycle after that, we can expect to hit $4,000,000. Here’s how PlanB explains it: “The price of Bitcoin shows a little bit of a lag, but eventually it catches up with the model value. And that is exactly what happened the last three halvings and what I expect will be happening next year.” PlanB PlanBs2f Bitcoin Will Never Drop Below This Price Ever Again This next prediction is based on Bitcoin’s realized price. Realized price is the value of all Bitcoins at the price they were last moved divided by the circulating supply. 🔴 Bitcoin’s current price: $71,000 ⚫️ Realized price: $30,000 🔵 2-year realized price: $47,000 (cyan) 5-month realized price: $64,000 During a bull market, Bitcoin’s price is above all of these realized price variations. Here’s the crazy part though. Bitcoin’s 5-month realized price acts as a support level for bull market dips. In their initial press release, it was revealed that they had purchased 581 Bitcoin. Keep in mind - they aren’t a Bitcoin or crypto company. They’re a medical device maker. Now, they’ve done it again… In an S-3 filing with the SEC, Semler now hold 828 Bitcoin which they purchased for $57 million. “We view bitcoin as a reliable store of value and a compelling investment. We believe it has unique characteristics as a scarce and finite asset that can serve as a reasonable inflation hedge and safe haven amid global instability.” Semler Scientific S-3 filing At current market prices their Bitcoin holdings are worth $59 million. A neat $2 million ‘profit’ to kick things off. "Semler remains focused on our two strategies of expanding our healthcare business and acquiring and holding bitcoin." Doug Murphy-Chutorian, MD, Semler Scientific CEO But it doesn’t stop there… Semler also announced plans to raise an additional $150 million of debt securities. With a portion of that being used to buy more Bitcoin. “We intend to use the net proceeds from the sale of any securities offered under this prospectus primarily for general corporate purposes, including the acquisition of bitcoin,” Semler Scientific S-3 filing This recent Bitcoin purchase puts Semler firmly in 20th position out of publicly traded company holdings. Market Value (Market cap): current price of Bitcoin multiplied by the circulating supply Realized Value: the value of all coins at the price... WHERE ARE WE IN THE CYCLE? 🤔 Today we’ll be taking a look at the MVRV Z-Score. This metric simply compares the market value to the realized value. Market Value (Market cap): current price of Bitcoin multiplied by the circulating supply Realized Value: the value of all coins at the price they were last moved A market top (red zone) is categorised by market value being significantly higher than the realized value. A market bottom (green zone) is categorised by market value being significantly lower than the realized value. (also the best time to scoop up cheap Bitcoin) onchain The easiest way to use this metric is to think about it as a gauge of where we currently are in the cycle. Since the cycle bottom in November 2022, MVRV has been rallying. With some dips along the way of course. Currently it’s at 2.55 (Two weeks ago it was at 2.48) That puts MVRV in-between the green and red zones. Meaning we’re roughly in the middle of the cycle. We’ve still got a long way to go before Bitcoin’s deemed “overvalued” by this metric. Quick reminder that we’re also only just entering the “banana zone”… Expect this metric to drastically rise over the next few months. 🍌 Show more
