Brand motivates City of Memphis on wellness journey through health and wellness initiatives

This summer, Meta, from the makers of Metamucil®, will celebrate its partnership with the City of Memphis by donating a permanent outdoor adult fitness zone in Audubon Park. After being named the unhealthiest city in the U.S. in 20141, Meta embarked on a mission with the City of Memphis to encourage residents to take small steps to make healthy changes through a number of health initiatives throughout the partnership. In the spirit of this wellness partnership, the adult fitness zone will give the residents of Memphis an opportunity to continue on their healthy journey.

To kick-off the construction of the adult fitness park, Memphis Mayor A C Wharton Jr., Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell Jr., and Latreal “La” Mitchell, personal trainer to Meta spokesperson Michael Strahan, will host a groundbreaking event at Audubon Park on June 30, 2015 at 1pm near the southwest entrance of Audubon Park. The fitness area of the park is expected to be open for use for the public by mid to late summer.

Meta kicked off the partnership last fall with the help of Memphis’ Common Table Health Alliance (CTHA), a regional health improvement collaborative, and they co-hosted health-related events offering free resources, fitness classes, health screenings, fitness education, and product samples to the people of Memphis. Through these activities, Meta encouraged Memphians that one small step can lead to good things – resulting in what Meta calls “The Meta Effect.”

“We are excited to leave the people of Memphis with a permanent fitness installation where they can continue their health and wellness journey,” said Michelle Vaeth, Associate Director of Communications, P&G. “We hope that Meta’s efforts to encourage the City of Memphis to achieve a healthy lifestyle through small steps will inspire the rest of America that they can do the same.”

“Cities like Memphis across the U.S. are facing issues of public health and what we can do to improve it,” said Memphis Mayor A C Wharton, Jr. “With the help of Meta, Memphis has renewed its commitment to improving our wellbeing through small steps and using resources provided by Meta and CTHA like free fitness classes and healthy product samples. The donation of this park is a permanent reminder that our journey to better public health is ongoing.”

Meta invites all of America to experience their own Meta Effect by committing to making one small healthy change in their life. Meta’s line of MultiHealth products are one of those small, healthy changes that can lead to better things.
