SYDNEY--Rio Tinto PLC (RIO.LN) said an annual tender of diamonds
from its Argyle mine, in Western Australia, received the highest
average price per carat since the tender began in 1984.
The Anglo-Australian miner didn't disclose the price.
Rio Tinto's 2016 tender included 63 rare pink, red and violet
diamonds. It said the most precious stone was a 2.83-carat violet
diamond, which was sold to U.S.-based L.J. West Diamonds Inc.
