International stocks trading in New York closed higher on Monday, with the Bank of New York index of American depositary receipts adding 0.8% to 150.71. The European index rose 0.7% to 150.33, the Asian index jumped 1.2% to 141.85, the Latin American index was essentially flat at 288.53 and the emerging markets index climbed 0.5% to 280.32. Among the companies with shares that actively traded was JA Solar Holdings Co. (JASO).

JA Solar Holdings raised its first-quarter solar cell and module shipments estimate, a move Chief Executive Baofang Jin attributed to solid execution. The company also reiterated its full-year cell and module shipments guidance of between 2.7 gigawatts and 2.9 gigawatts. The Chinese solar-products company's shares jumped 7.8% to $10.05.

Insurer Aviva PLC (AV, AV.LN) said Monday it has sold its entire 47% stake in South Korean business Woori Aviva Life Insurance to NongHyup Financial Group, as part of its strategy to focus on markets where it has scale or a sustainable competitive advantage to maximize return on capital. Aviva shares rose 1.6% to $16.95.

Polish prosecutors have charged 13 people in connection with a bribery investigation into GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK, GSK.LN), Poland's Anti-Corruption Bureau said Monday. Shares of the pharmaceutical company edged up 0.2% to $51.84.
