Microelettronica and Deutsche Telekom Group, through its microwave
competence centre located at Cosmote in Greece, have successfully carried out a field
trial of long-reach E-band solution in Greece. SIAE Microelettronica is one of the
three selected wireless backhaul microwave radio suppliers of
Deutsche Telekom (DT).
E-band radio is one of the fastest growing wireless backhaul
technology segment, and many operators are turning to E-band to
boost their current network infrastructure. SIAE Microelettronica
long-reach solution boosts the link system gain to its maximum,
allowing to extend significantly the distance of standard E-band
links, and offering a much higher reliability and availability in
current network applications.
The installed link based on the commercially available
ALFOplus80HDX offers a 10Gbps capacity connectivity between two
sites managed by the DT engineering team, for a distance of 5km.
After the first 4 months of good and rough weather, the long-reach
hop demonstrated its superiority over a standard link, achieving a
carrier-grade link availability of an order of magnitude higher
than a standard solution. Under adverse weather and propagation
conditions during the proof of concept trial, the long-reach high
system gain allowed for continuous operation.
