German jobless claims rose less than expected in March, without showing the impact of the spread of the coronavirus on the German labor market.

Jobless claims rose by 1,000 in March after falling by a revised 8,000 in February, the Federal Employment Agency said Tuesday. The preliminary reading for February showed a fall of 10,000.

Economists in The Wall Street Journal's poll had forecast an increase of 35,000.

The adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.0%, the agency said.

The number of registered job vacancies stood at 691,000 in March, down 106,000 on the year, the agency said.
