LINCOLN, Neb., Feb. 25, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The National Conference on Weights and Measures (NCWM) announces Weights and Measures Week, March 1 -7, 2020. These dates are designated every year to commemorate President John Adams's signing of the first United States weights and measures law on March 2nd, 1799.

NCWM Chairman Craig VanBuren of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development announced his theme for the year, "Building Weights and Measures' Future by Sharing Our Knowledge." In doing so, he set out three goals.

The first goal is to create a mentoring program on NCWM. This program will also assist in succession planning for weights and measures inspections programs across the country as well as those industry organizations actively involved at NCWM. The meetings and collaboration create outstanding opportunities to network and share experiences and knowledge.

The second goal is to create an online marketing plan to share our knowledge with the outside world. "We have the world at our fingertips, we need to use that power to our benefit and share, not only our knowledge but our story and our value..." said VanBuren. NCWM has been developing strategies through YouTube videos, social media, and outreach to accomplish this.

Mr. VanBuren's final goal is to create more training opportunities for NCWM membership. He is looking for additional opportunities, whether at NCWM conferences, regional meetings, online sessions, or special training events. He emphasized, "As we've seen in recent years, systems of weights and measures are ever-changing and at a much faster pace. There is always something new we can learn, whether it be a two-hour class or a 30-minute demonstration."

The National Conference on Weights and Measures is a professional nonprofit association of state and local weights and measures officials, federal agencies, manufacturers, retailers, and consumers. NCWM has developed national weights and measures standards since 1905. The organization brings the right interests together to keep pace with innovative advancements in the marketplace.
