BILLINGS, Mont., June 19, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A house perched at the top of Heart Mountain in Cody, Wyoming, won the heart of Western Art & Architecture, earning a cover story in the magazine's new June/July 2019 issue. The expansive timber and stone home rests on 2,700 acres of natural beauty abundant with inspiring views and roaming wildlife. For the homeowners, the dream was sparked in 1980 with an impulsive roadside stop by the landmark mountain and a wish to live "somewhere like that." Decades later, after years spent amassing a notable Western art collection, the land became available and the couple's dream started to become reality. After getting the home's exterior and "bones" intact, the homeowners recruited design principal Jeremiah Young and senior designer Rosina Kastelitz of the Billings, Montana, design firm Kibler & Kirch to help execute the interiors.

"This was a project akin to a grand old early American home that plays to the whim and the passions and enthusiasm of the homeowners," reflects Young.

Young is no stranger to working with fine art. Aside from running Kibler & Kirch, he also founded the popular Stapleton Gallery in downtown Billings, featuring the work of regional artists in a variety of creative exhibits.

Young describes his team's collaborative efforts with the homeowners, who took over as lead designers partway through the process, as almost like a design-build project, working in unison each step of the way. He noted that the couple's vision for the home included impactful influences that ranged from a wine grotto to a Japanese Spa to a Victorian-themed theater room.

"There are times when a designer's role is simply to facilitate and let the homeowners' strong concepts take shape," Young says. "That was the case with this client who made the building and design of this special home a full-time job."

One of those strong concepts was for the creation of the authentic Western saloon that occupies the ground floor of the home, anchored by a late-19th-century 24-foot-long mahogany bar. The Kibler & Kirch team designed the space around this treasured antique, equipping the room with a curtained stage, antique casino games, a billiards table and impressive wildlife mounts that pay homage to the West as it once was while honoring the homeowners' dreams in the heart of Wyoming.
