STOCKHOLM--Svenska Handelsbanken AB (SHB-B.SK) on Monday named Carina Akerstrom as Chief Executive, effective March 27, succeeding Anders Bouvin who will retire.

Ms. Akerstrom started as an employee of the bank's Kalmar branch in 1986 and has since had a number of positions at the business. In 2008, she was appointed executive vice president and since 2016 has had the role of deputy group chief executive where her responsibilities included the bank's large corporate customers and its overall business operations in Sweden's Stockholm region.
