NEW YORK, March 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- S&P Dow Jones Indices and Experian released today data through February 2020 for the S&P/Experian Consumer Credit Default Indices. The indices represent a comprehensive measure of changes in consumer credit defaults and show that the composite rate was unchanged at 1.02%. The bank card default rate increased 13 basis points to 3.41%. The auto loan default rate dropped 10 basis points to 0.89% and the first mortgage default rate was unchanged at 0.84%.

Four of the five major metropolitan statistical areas ("MSAs") showed lower default rates compared to last month. Miami showed the largest decrease, down 11 basis points to 1.66%. New York fell seven basis points to 1.00%, Los Angeles dropped six basis points to 0.80%, and Dallas was five basis points lower, to 1.02%. Chicago was the only major MSA that increased, up four basis points to 1.21%.

The table below summarizes the February 2020 results for the S&P/Experian Consumer Credit Default Indices. These data are not seasonally adjusted and are not subject to revision.
