--Boeing Co.'s (BA) planned acquisition of a controlling stake in Embraer SA's (ERJ) commercial aircraft unit could face an antitrust probe from the European Union, Reuters reports Monday, citing "people familiar with the matter."

--Last year, the two companies proposed a deal which would see Boeing take an 80% stake in Embraer's commercial airplane and services business.

--The investigation by the European Commission could take as long as five months, the report said.

--Boeing said it was working with authorities in several jurisdictions on regulatory approvals, the report said.

--Embraer wasn't immediately available for comment and the European Commission didn't respond to a request for immediate comment, the report said.
