Volkswagen AG (VOW.XE) will aim to minimize its impact on the environment, the company said in its new environmental mission statement released Wednesday.

"For all our products and mobility solutions we aspire to minimize environmental impacts along the entire lifecycle--from raw material extraction until end-of-life in order to keep ecosystems intact and to create positive impacts on society," the German car maker said in its new environmental mission statement.

Volkswagen said it concentrates on four main fields of action: climate change, resources, air quality and environmental compliance. The company said it aims to become "a balance-sheet CO2 -neutral company by 2050." By 2025, it targets a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions for its passenger cars and light-duty vehicles over the entire life cycle, compared with 2015.

Volkswagen admitted in 2015 to having equipped some 11 million of its vehicles globally with software which allowed them to dodge official emissions tests.
