Volkswagen AG's (VOW.XE) sports-car maker Porsche AG plans to hire an additional 500 people for the production of its electric Taycan model, citing strong demand.

Porsche said Tuesday it now expects to create 2,000 jobs in total for production of the car at its site in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. The company said it still expects to make 20,000 units of the cars in the first year of production, but the added jobs will give it flexibility to increase production if necessary.

The new jobs will be added in the second quarter of next year, while the initial 1,500 positions will be filled in the coming days, it said.
