Volkswagen Group (VOW.XE) said Thursday that it has appointed Ye Qi, a professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, as a new member of its sustainability advisory council.

He will join a group of nine independent experts from business politics, science and society in their role of advising the company on topics including sustainable mobility, environmental protection or social responsibility.

"The sustainability advisory council is a very important body for the Volkswagen AG. It has given significant impetus to the decarbonization strategy of the group," Herbert Diess, chairman of Volkswagen Group's board of management, said.

Volkswagen said the professor has proven expertise in environmental governance, policy and urbanization. His current research focuses on energy transition and the generation and use of renewable energy in an urbanized world.
