Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA said late Wednesday that it has appointed a new chief executive officer, as the turbine maker faces continued challenges in its onshore business.

Jochen Eickholt, a board member at German parent Siemens Energy AG, will take the reins at the Spanish company effective March 1, replacing Andreas Nauen.

"Siemens Gamesa is experiencing significant challenges in its onshore business in a very difficult market, and we have appointed an executive with a strong track record in managing complex operational situations and in successfully turning around underperforming businesses," Chairman Miguel Angel Lopez said.

Mr. Eickholt has been with Siemens AG for more than 20 years in roles including CEO of Siemens Mobility, and has served on Siemens Energy's executive board since January 2020, Siemens Gamesa said.

The company is due to report full first-quarter earnings Thursday morning.
