Nestle (NESN.EB) on Thursday said it aims to have zero net carbon emissions from its facilities and products by 2050 as it works toward aligning its business strategy with the Paris Agreement on climate change.

The Swiss food-and-beverage company said it will lay out a time-bound plan including interim targets in line with the 1.5 degrees path, which requires companies to strengthen their actions to limit global warming.

To achieve its ambition, Nestle said some of the specific actions it will take are aimed at transforming its products, introducing programs that help absorb CO2 and increasing the amount of renewable energy it uses.

To make its products climate-friendly, the company will launch more plant-based food and beverage options and will look to reformulate its products using more sustainable ingredients. It will also start using alternative packaging materials.

To help absorb carbon, Nestle will engage with farmers at its supply chains and will restore deforested land by replanting trees.

Nestle, which is using renewable electricity in one third of its factories, said it aims to use only renewable electricity in all its factories, logistics and offices by 2050.
