--French luxury-goods giant LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE has held exploratory talks with U.S. fashion company Ralph Lauren about a takeover, which could be one of the sector's biggest of all time, U.S. news site Axios reports, citing unnamed sources.

--Talks between the two companies have gone on for the last couple of years as Ralph Lauren's eponymous founder aims to secure the future of his business, Axios reports.

--Neither LVMH nor Ralph Lauren responded to requests for comment.
