Bayer AG said Tuesday that it will spend more than 400 million
euros ($464.8 million) to expand its production capabilities as
part of its goal of increasing access to contraception for women in
less wealthy countries.
The German pharmaceutical-and-chemical conglomerate will build a
new production facility in Alajuela, Costa Rica. It will also build
a new facility and expand its production capability in Turku,
Finland, the company said.
Both sites will produce hormonal implants and hormonal
intrauterine systems, and will support the company's goal of giving
100 million women in low- and middle-income countries access to
family planning by 2030, Bayer said.
