Zurich Insurance Group AG (ZURN.EB) said Tuesday that it has committed to a zero-emission investment portfolio by 2050 by joining the United Nations' Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance.

The Swiss insurance company is one of the founding members of the alliance, which was launched yesterday along with Allianz SE (ALV.XE), Swiss Re AG (SREN.EB) and others.

Zurich Insurance said it was stepping up its efforts to accelerate a climate change transition. Its analysis shows business actions still aren't doing enough to keep the global average temperature from rising less than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, it said.

Zurich also said it is seeing growing demand among its business customers for risk-management tools measuring the impact of climate change, and that it will launch a new climate risk advisory service during its next strategic cycle.
