A Tennessee food company is recalling more than three tons of
sausages sold at Walmart Inc. (WMT) stores due to possible
salmonella contamination, the U.S. Department of Agriculture
said.
The recall by George's Prepared Foods of Caryville, Tenn.,
covers 6,444 pounds of ready-to-eat pork sausage and turkey sausage
products that were produced in April and May and shipped to retail
locations nationwide and sold under Walmart's "Great Value"
brand.
The USDA, which said the company's third-party cold storage
facility inadvertently shipped the products to commerce, said there
have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions.
Infection from salmonella bacteria, the most common form of food
poisoning in the U.S., causes diarrhea, fever and cramps. Most
people recover in a week or less without treatment.
