Banco Santander SA (SAN.MC) will propose the appointment of Alvaro Antonio Cardoso de Souza to its board of directors at its annual general meeting on March 23, it said on Wednesday.

Mr. Cardoso is currently non-executive chairman of Santander's Brazil unit.

With the appointment of Mr. Cardoso, Santander's board will again be made up of 15 members, including eight independent members.
