Edison International unit Southern California Edison said power shutoffs intended to reduce wildfire risk are under consideration for 165,007 customers, about 3.3% of its total, after the National Weather Service issued a "Red Flag" warning for parts of Southern California through noon Thursday.

Shutoffs are under consideration for 55,912 customers in Ventura County. Power is currently shut off for less than 1% of the utility's customers overall.

Sempra Energy's San Diego Gas and Electric said 31,444 customers could have shutoffs.

The National Weather Service said the warning is in effect for much of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, due to gusty Santa Ana winds and low humidity.
