PG&E Corp. (PCG) said it is monitoring a potentially strong
and dry offshore wind event later this week that could prompt the
company to shut off power to parts of 17 counties in California's
Sierra Foothills and North Bay areas.
The utility said the main period of weather risk is forecast to
last about 18 to 24 hours, from Wednesday evening through midday
Thursday.
PG&E implemented a policy of preemptive power outages after
its equipment was implicated in wildfires in 2017 and 2018,
including the Camp Fire, which killed 86 people and destroyed the
town of Paradise.
