International Business Machines Corp. on Tuesday said it has cut
its operational carbon-dioxide emissions by 39.7% since 2005,
putting the tech giant well ahead of schedule in its quest for a
40% reduction by 2025.
The Armonk, N.Y., company also said 47% of the electricity it
consumed last year came from renewable sources, keeping it on track
to source 55% of its electricity from renewables by 2025.
IBM said it implemented 1,660 energy-conservation projects at
nearly 230 locations around the world last year. The company said
the projects delivered annual energy savings of 136,000 megawatt
hours, equal to 3.2% of its total energy use during the
year--exceeding its goal of 3%.
