Duke Energy Corp. (DUK) said Tuesday it would stop sending ash
and wastewater to nearly all basins by early 2019.
The company Tuesday updated its progress to close all the
company's remaining coal-ash basins.
To allow it to stop send ash and wastewater to the basins, the
company said it constructed dry bottom ash-handling systems, lined
water-treatment basins and new lined retention basins at a number
of operating coal plants.
The scope and scale of the company's work to close 56 basins at
21 plants continues to move forward, Duke said. Ash has been
excavated from seven basins. In coming months, the company said, it
will complete excavation at seven additional basins.
