BP PLC said Monday that it is introducing a new hybrid model of working for staff who had previously been fully office-based, under which around 25,000 employees will typically work from home two days a week.

The British energy giant said it will be changing and reconfiguring its offices over time. The company expects to roll out the new model this summer, with implementation subject to BP and local coronavirus-related guidelines, it said.

"Over the past year, we have learnt how effectively people can work remotely, but also the importance of collaboration and innovation and how this is still most effective face-to-face," BP said.

The company said most office-based workers will have a 60:40 workplace-home split as part of the new model, which seeks to offer individuals and teams a more flexible way of working.
