Becton Dickinson & Co. on Tuesday said it received additional pandemic-related orders for needles and syringes from the U.S. and Canada totaling 177 million injection devices.

The Franklin Lakes, N.J., medical-technology company said the U.S. has ordered another 140 million devices, bringing total U.S. orders to 190 million.

The company said the new Canadian order for 37 million devices brings total Canadian orders to 75 million.

Becton Dickinson said it has now received total orders of 330 million needles and syringes from the U.S., Canada and the U.K., with a majority of the orders slated for delivery by the end of the year in anticipation of a coronavirus vaccine being approved in late 2020 or early 2021.
