5% of profits from select sale items between
Oct. 24-27 will support young people with the tools needed for the
careers of tomorrow
Let the giving season begin. Starting today, Best Buy is giving
its customers an opportunity to get a jumpstart on the season and
support teens from underserved communities with its first-ever
Give-Back Sale.
Starting today and running through Oct. 27, 5% of profits from
select sale items at Best Buy (in stores and online) will be
donated to Teen Tech Centers— a safe, after-school learning
environment equipped with cutting-edge technology where youth learn
new skills, stay on-track with school, nurture positive adult and
peer relationships, and discover tech-related careers. My Best Buy
members can start the season of giving on Oct. 24, while all Best
Buy customers can demonstrate their generosity by shopping in
stores and online beginning on Oct. 25. A full list of sale items
can be found at BestBuy.com.
Best Buy, together with a network of nonprofit and co-investment
partners, has opened 31 Teen Tech Centers across the country,
providing hands-on experience, mentorship, and access to technology
for nearly 8,000 teens every year. So far, participants from the
Teen Tech Centers have launched podcasts, produced their own music,
and have completed summer internships at some of the country’s most
notable technology companies. Funds raised from this sale will
support existing Teen Tech Centers and will also build on Best
Buy’s goal of having 60 centers open by the end of 2020 across the
U.S., Canada and Mexico.
“We’re so excited that customers will have a hand in supporting
the future of teens across the country through this sale,” said
Andrea Wood, senior director of Social Impact at Best Buy. “Our
Teen Tech Centers are unleashing the limitless possibilities of
technology to ensure that all young people have the opportunity to
pursue their dreams. We couldn’t do it without the support of our
partners, customers and local communities.”
Geek Squad Academy and Career Pathways
The Give-Back Sale and Teen Tech Centers are just the tip of the
iceberg when it comes to how Best Buy is supporting youth across
the country. The company supports programs like Geek Squad
Academy—a tech-focused day camp taught by Best Buy employees—that
lights a spark in younger teens, igniting their passion for
pursuing tech-related higher education or tech jobs in the years
ahead. Career Pathways is another program that offers a year-long
technical training program combining intensive technical and
workplace readiness training with paid internships in high-demand
fields such as cyber security and digital media.
