ABB Ltd. said Friday that it has acquired Codian Robotics BV, a
supplier of robots.
The Swiss engineering company said the acquisition of the Dutch
robotics maker, which employs 20 people world-wide, increased its
presence in the field of delta robots.
This type of parallel arm robot is used in high-precision
pick-and-place operations, and is ideal for hygiene-sensitive
industries such as food and beverage and pharmaceuticals, ABB
said.
The deal was signed Thursday and both parties agreed not to
disclose any financial details, ABB said.
"With Codian Robotics we are acquiring one of the world's most
successful suppliers of delta robots with an extraordinary track
record in the machine builders' sector," Hans Wimmer, president of
ABB's machine automation division, said.
