FTC Requests Information on Broadband Providers' Data-Handling Practices

The Federal Trade Commission is seeking more information from
internet broadband providers about how the companies collect,
retain, use and disclose information about consumers and their
devices, the agency said Tuesday.
The FTC sent orders seeking information to companies including
AT&T Inc., Comcast Corp., Alphabet Inc., T-Mobile US Inc. and
Verizon Communications Inc.
The agency said it is seeking information on companies' privacy
policies, notices to consumers about data collection-practices and
whether the companies offer consumers choices about the collection,
retention, use and disclosure of personal information.
The FTC said it is conducting the study to better understand
internet service providers' privacy practices as more
telecommunications companies move into the content-creation
business, such as AT&T's purchase of Time Warner Inc., which
brought it Warner Bros., HBO and Turner networks.
