PepsiCo Inc. Wednesday said that it plans to tackle various
sustainability-related goals as part of a new company
initiative.
The program will address the company's agricultural footprint,
supply chain and business strategy, the Purchase, N.Y.-based
food-and-beverage company said.
For its agricultural practices, PepsiCo plans to restore an area
of Earth equivalent to the farmland it uses--about 7 million
acres--and to find sustainable sourcing for key ingredients.
The company said it will make its supply chain more sustainable
by achieving net-zero emissions by 2040 and becoming water positive
by 2030. It is also aiming to cut the use of virgin plastics and
increase recycled content in packaging.
PepsiCo also plans to use healthier ingredients, reduce sugar
and sodium content and ramp up business models that require little
packaging, such as its SodaStream brand, the company said.
