Intuitive Surgical Inc.'s surgical-device shipments rose slightly in the first quarter, but order postponements stacked up late last month, the company said Wednesday.

Intuitive, a Sunnyvale, Calif., company that makes devices for robot-assisted surgery, delivered 237 of its da Vinci surgical systems in the first three months of the year, compared with 235 for the same period in 2019. The company estimated that the number of da Vinci procedures performed worldwide grew 10% year over year.

However, procedure volume fell sharply in March as U.S. and European healthcare systems delayed deliveries, the company said. Intuitive withdrew its earnings guidance for 2020, citing continued uncertainty regarding the pandemic.
