FOX Business Network (FBN) finished 2019 delivering the top two
programs on business television for the third straight year,
according to early Nielsen Media Research. As the political economy
dominated headlines, FBN scored its third highest rated year ever
across Business Day in total viewers. In addition, FBN delivered
eight of the 15 top rated programs of the year in all of business
television.
Marking four consecutive years as the leader in business news,
Lou Dobbs Tonight (7-8 PM/ET) scored the year’s number one
rated program in total viewers (332,000). Along with Dobbs, FBN’s
Varney & Co. (9A-12 PM/ET), Trish Regan Primetime
(8-9 PM/ET), The Claman Countdown (3-4 PM/ET), The
Evening Edit with Elizabeth MacDonald (6-7 PM/ET), After the
Bell (4-5 PM/ET), CAVUTO: Coast to Coast (12-2 PM/ET),
and Making Money with Charles Payne (2-3 PM/ET) all placed
among the top 15 most-watched business programs for the year.
Continuing as the number one Business Day program on television,
Varney & Co. toppled CNBC’s Squawk on the Street/Squawk Alley
in total viewers across three hours for the third consecutive year
with 226,000 total viewers and 20,000 in the demo. Hosted by
business news veteran Stuart Varney, the three-hour market open all
program saw a 13 percent advantage over the CNBC competition.
Across primetime, FBN delivered milestone growth with Trish
Regan Primetime and Kennedy earning the network’s highest
rated 8PM/ET and 9PM/ET hours in total viewership, respectively.
Regan’s program saw a 14 percent audience increase while Kennedy
posted a total viewership growth of 3 percent.
Rounding out the year, FBN delivered four of the top five
programs among affluent viewers ages 25-54. According to Nielsen
data, Making Money with Charles Payne, CAVUTO: Coast to Coast,
Mornings with Maria Bartiromo (6-9 AM/ET) and The Claman
Countdown were among the top five programs with the younger,
high-income audience. In turn, FBN furthered its title as the most
affluent cable news network, and second most affluent channel in
all of cable after The Golf Channel.
In comparison, CNBC, the 30 year-old legacy business network,
recorded its second lowest-rated year since 1995 in the key news
demo in Total Day, while FBN saw its third highest rated year ever
in total viewers in Business Day. In Business Day viewership, FBN
drew in 174,000 total viewers and 17,000 in the key demo. In Total
