Atlassian Corp. PLC (TEAM) has committed to using 100% renewable energy by 2025, becoming the first Australian tech company to make the pledge, it said Tuesday.

The software company, known for productivity apps such as Trello, said it has more than 3,000 employees at 10 locations across seven countries. Atlassian's Mountain View, California office already sources 100% of its energy from renewables.

"In a company of this size, action like this is not easy," Mike Cannon-Brookes, co-founder and co-chief executive officer at Atlassian, said.

The company said it will work with providers to ensure its power comes from renewables or buy certificates guaranteeing renewable power.

In the future, Atlassian is also considering power-purchase agreements--contracts in which energy providers agree to generate electricity for a buyer.

Atlassian said it will also reduce energy use in its buildings through efficient equipment, LEDs, window coatings and by having employees conserve air conditioning and heating.

"We're doing this because it's the right thing to do," Mr. Cannon-Brookes said.

Atlassian's data center operations are managed by Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN), which exceeded 50% renewable energy use in 2018 and has a long-term goal of 100%.
