Metals Rise Despite Global Recession Fears
0732 GMT - Metal prices are rising early on Monday with demand,
despite mounting fears of a global recession. Three-month copper
futures in London are up 1% to $8,405 a metric ton while nickel is
up 3.6% to $22,900 a ton. Gold futures in New York are also up 0.6%
to $1,840.40 a troy ounce. "Whilst not exactly a call for a turn
from the current bear scenario, we do note positioning starting to
show shorts emerging across risk assets," Marex's Asian metals team
says at a note. "It does seem like markets are buying--but just
very slightly," they add, noting that supply of base metals is
expected to remain on track despite strikes in South America.
