FTSE 100 Treads Water; Construction Stocks Gain
0755 GMT - The FTSE 100 Index is flat at 7203, though
house-builders gain after FTSE 250 sector player Bellway reported
higher full-year profit and a good start to the new year. Taylor
Wimpey, Barratt Developments, Persimmon and Berkeley Group are all
among the risers, with Bellway shares gaining nearly 4%. "Bellway
has defended its corner well in the face of any number of
challenges, while at the same time positioning for growth with an
aggressive land-acquisition program," Interactive Investor analyst
Richard Hunter says. At the other end of the spectrum, financial,
utility and travel-related stocks fall. Oil stocks gain as the
price of a barrel of Brent crude increases 0.6% to $84.80.

Market Talk:
UK's Sale of New July 2053 Green Gilt Via Syndication Expected
Today
0712 GMT - The U.K. is expected to sell about GBP6 billion in a
new July 2053 green gilt via a syndication of banks Tuesday, which
could exert some pressure on existing longer-dated bonds, says
Mizuho. "At a size of around GBP6bn, this could bring some bearish
pressure on the long-end, but we expect the supply to go very
well," analysts at the bank say. They expect a "sizeable" order
book, given the deal is likely to attract ESG funds as well
longer-term investors. The 30-year bond "will look particularly
attractive to the pension/LDI [liability-driven investors]
community who won't necessarily mind paying a slight premium for a
decent block of duration," they say. (lorena.ruibal@wsj.com)
