The London Book Fair, scheduled to be held next week, has been canceled due to an escalation in the novel coronavirus in Europe, organizer Reed Exhibitions said Wednesday.

Reed Exhibitions--part of FTSE 100-listed information-and-analytics provider RELX PLC--said it had taken the decision following advice from public health authorities and other organizations. The London Book Fair will return in 2021, it said.

"The effects, actual and projected, of coronavirus are becoming evident across all aspects of our lives here in the U.K. and across the world, with many of our participants facing travel restrictions," Reed Exhibitions said.

The cancellation of the London Book Fair follows that of the Leipzig Book Fair on Tuesday.

According to its website, the London Book Fair attracts more than 25,000 publishing professionals to London.

Reed also rescheduled real-estate market event MIPIM last week, which will now take place from June 2 to June 5 in Cannes, France. The event had originally been scheduled for March 10 to March 13.
