Danone SA (BN.FR) said Wednesday that it has enlisted a new digital tool to manage its progress on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The tool, called SDG Action Manager, was created by the UN Global Compact and B Lab, a nonprofit that certifies companies as B corporations which "are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community and the environment," it said on its website. There are more than 3,000 companies in the network, including Danone.

SDG Action Manager offers a web-based interface where companies can set targets and track progress on any of the UN's 17 SDGs, which the UN aims to achieve in a decade. The tool lets team members collaborate, set due dates, see the level of risk the SDG presents and follow a percentage progress bar toward an SDG.

"We have recognized the important role that the tool can play in aligning business on a common measurement and encouraging action towards the SDGs," said Emmanuel Faber, chief executive of Danone, in an email.

The French food company, which was a beta tester for the tool, has a direct impact on the zero hunger, good health and well-being and clean water and sanitation SDGs, Mr. Faber said.

"We will use the tool to tangibly understand our own impact and continue our efforts to contribute positively to the SDG targets," he said.

This year, Mr. Faber said Danone will work to partner with more companies to achieve the SDGs, including in two coalitions it helped launch last year: Business for Inclusive Growth, which tackles inequality, and One Planet Business for Biodiversity.
