Airbus SE said Thursday that it is working on a modification that will allow some commercial planes to be repurposed for cargo operations during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Toulouse, France-based plane maker said it is developing a modification for its A330 and A350 family aircraft. This will allow airlines to remove the passenger seating and install freight pallets onto the cabin floor seat tracks.

This will help business continuity and ease the global shortage of "belly-freight" air cargo capacity due to the widespread grounding of long-haul aircraft amid the pandemic, Airbus said.
