Bitcoin Global News (BGN)

March 26, 2019 -- ADVFN Crypto NewsWire -- It might not surprise anyone that Twitch supported Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash for payments, to an extent. They are a streaming service, primarily for professional video and tabletop gaming, which makes them fairly progressive by default. What may actually be striking, however, is that as of today, CoinDesk has connected the dots to show when and possibly why Twitch is no longer a crypto supporter.

In a nutshell, Twitch published a tweet last year that indicated it accepted Bitcoin, amongst Amazon Pay, Apple Pay, Mastercard, and all of its’ more mainstream payment partners. Then, this week, a particular Reddit member apparently broke the news that Twitch had discontinued its’ partnership with Bitpay, which had been the channel through which customers could pay for Twitch in Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash. Inside of this claim, the same user noted that the removal had been done “silently.”

CoinDesk goes on to add that the Twitch terms and conditions page does not expressly mention crypto and compares the removal to Microsoft’s, which happened last year due to volatility in the crypto market and was then reinstated when the company felt more comfortable with the price movement of Bitcoin a few days later.

Since no answer has been received from Twitch as of yet, it is nearly impossible to make any sort of further conclusion on this subject. Twitch does represent a new iteration of the idea of a media platform and yet, this does not directly mean that they will accept crypto again, any time soon. It is both likely that they will wait for years even, for the market volatility to significantly slow down and that they will pull a similar move to what Microsoft did. In other words, with this sort of global volatility, anything is possible.
