Italy's UniCredit SpA (UCG.MI) said Monday that around three million customer records have been exposed in a cybersecurity incident.

The company said that no banking details that allowed access to customer accounts had been affected--however user names, cities, telephone numbers and email addresses had been exposed. The records were all limited to Italian territories, it said.

The vulnerable data file was created in 2015, the bank said.

UniCredit added that it has launched an internal investigation and that it has contacted the relevant authorities, including the police.
