Italian prosecutors dropped a legal challenge over the acquittal
of Eni SpA and its managers in a corruption case related to
oil-drilling rights in Nigeria, according to the energy major.
"The waiver means that the acquittals of Eni and its managers of
March 2021 have now become full and final," Eni said.
Eni and other individuals including Chief Executive Officer
Claudio Descalzi, as well as Shell PLC, were on trial over a
payment made for drilling rights in Nigeria that prosecutors argued
was mostly for the purpose of bribes. Eni and Shell jointly bought
drilling rights off the coast of Nigeria in 2011 in an area known
as OPL 245.
