STOCKHOLM--Swedish telecommunications operator Telia Co. AB said Wednesday that the Eco Rating initiative for mobile phones is set to roll out globally.

Eco Rating was initially launched in May 2021 by Deutsche Telekom AG, Orange, Telefonica SA, Telia Company and Vodafone Group PLC to provide consistent, accurate information on the environmental impact of producing, using, transporting and disposing of smartphones and feature phones.

The program was originally launched in 24 European countries and has since been rolled out in South Africa and Brazil.

In the next three months, Eco Rating is expected to launch in countries including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, Telia said.

More than 150 mobile phone models are now assessed by the Eco Rating initiative, nearly doubling the range of devices rated at launch, it added.

Fairphone, Realme and Vivo are the latest mobile brands to join the scheme, alongside Bullitt Group, Doro, and HMD Global.
