BASF SE said Monday that BASF Venture Capital, the group's
corporate venture capital arm, is going to invest in Shanghai-based
startup SmartAHC, which provides digital solutions to pig farming
in China.
Markus Solibieda, managing director of BASF Venture Capital,
said the startup--which uses sensor and camera technologies as well
as artificial intelligence to help farmers monitor livestock--is a
good fit for the company's focus on investments in agricultural
technology and digitalization.
"Our investment complements BASF's strategy of promoting
sustainability and healthy nutrition," Mr. Solibieda added.
Lan Song, SmartAHC's chief executive, said BASF's investment in
the startup will help the company in its plans to increase its
research and development capacities and expand its market
presence.
