Councils of Newcastle and
Gateshead have awarded GOWEX
(GOW-MAB, NYSE Alternext ALGOW, LGWXY OTC Market), a leading
company in the creation Wireless Smart Cities®, the contract to
develop and manage their respective public WiFi networks. The
region of Tyneside in northeast of England, where both cities
belong, is the sixth most populous area in
the United Kingdom with 829,300 inhabitants.
Newcastle and Gateshead add to the
important cities of Edinburgh and Dublin, which already trust the
GOWEX Wireless Smart Cities model and whose residents and tourists
are enjoying 24/7 free Internet connection. "We

GOWEX bets
on the United Kingdom
This new contract signed with both
cities will boost GOWEX growth strategy in the British Isles, where
the company has a strong commitment to development. The Company has
obtained from both Councils a 10-year contract for the commercial
exploitation of these networks and they will work together on the
incorporation of more and more access points and partners in order
to improve the coverage and quality of service and to gradually
provide WiFi coverage in those areas most seriously affected by the
digital divide.
Both Tyneside cities will offer to
their citizens and visitors free WiFi 24 hours per day. The first
phase will roll-out approximately 40% of the planned access points
in each city.
To support this growth, GOWEX is
building resources in United Kingdom and Ireland, starting with the
recent appointment of Philip Brown to head the operation of the
Company in North Europe.
Free WiFi in
NewcastleGateshead
Citizens and visitors of
Newcastle-Gateshead area - over 17 million visitors per annum- will
enjoy a free WiFi connection from this summer, in some of the
busiest districts of Newcastle: Shields Road
District Centre, Newcastle centre, South Gosforth Neighbourhood
Centre, Stanhope Street Neighbourhood Centre, Throckley
Neighbourhood Centre, and Two Ball
Lonnen Neighbourhood Centre, among others.
In Gateshead a free wireless
connection will be provided in the districts of Beacon Lough Centre, Birtley Centre, Centre Blaydon,
Chopwell Centre, Coatsworth Road, Crawcrook Centre, Deckham Centre,
Centre Dunston, Dunston Hill Centre, Felling Centre, and
Greenside Centre, among others.
Like in all the rest of the GOWEX
networks, all users who will register for the free WiFi service in
both cities will be able to browse for free with their unique
personal profile in all GOWEX WiFi networks distributed all over
the world: Dublin, Edinburgh, New York,
Chicago, Miami, San Francisco, Madrid, and many more
with a free download speed of 1Mbps.
It is worth mentioning that
Newcastle is a part of City Mayor's list of top UK cities and,
Gateshead is part of the Eurocities network of European cities.
