US initial jobless claims unexpectedly rose in the week ended 7 January 2022
In the US, initial jobless claims unexpectedly jumped to a level of 230.00 K in the week ended 7 January 2022, compared to a reading of 207.00 K in the previous week. Markets were expecting the initial jobless claims to record a drop to a level of 200.00 K.
US PPI rose less than expected in December
In the US, the PPI climbed 9.70% on a YoY basis in December, compared to a revised rise of 9.80% in the prior month. Markets were expecting the PPI to record a rise of 9.80%.
Australia home loan approvals unexpectedly climbed in November
In Australia, home loan approvals unexpectedly jumped 7.60% in November, compared to a drop of 4.10% in the prior month. Markets were expecting home loan approvals to report a flat reading.
Japan PPI climbed less than expected in December
In Japan, the PPI jumped 8.50% on a YoY basis in December, compared to rise of 9.00% in the prior month. Markets were expecting the PPI to record a rise of 8.80%.
China trade surplus widened more-than-expected in December
In China, trade surplus widened to $94.46 billion in December, compared to a surplus of $71.72 billion in the previous month. Markets were expecting the surplus to widen to $74.50 billion.
