UK BRC like for like retail sales jumped in December

In the UK, the BRC like for like retail sales advanced 0.60% YoY basis in December, compared to a rise of 1.80% in the previous month.

Euro-zone investor confidence index unexpectedly rose in January

In the Euro-zone, the investor confidence index advanced to a level of 14.90 in January, compared to a reading of 13.50 in the previous month. Markets were expecting the index to drop to a level of 12.00.

Euro-zone unemployment rate dropped as expected in December

In the Euro-zone, the unemployment rate declined to 7.20% in December, meeting market expectations and compared to a rate of 7.30% in the prior month.

Australia retail sales rose more than expected in November

In Australia, retail sales climbed 7.30% on a MoM basis in November, compared to an advance of 4.90% in the previous month. Markets were expecting retail sales to record a rise of 3.90%.

Australia trade surplus narrowed in November

In Australia, seasonally adjusted trade surplus narrowed to A$9423.00 million in November, compared to a revised surplus of A$10781.00 million in the prior month. Markets were expecting the trade surplus to narrow to A$10600.00 million.
