US NY Empire State manufacturing index rose in July

In the US, the NY Empire State manufacturing index advanced to a level of 4.30 in July, compared to a reading of -8.60 in the previous month. Markets were anticipating the index to advance to a level of 2.00.

Canadian existing home sales unexpectedly fell in June

In Canada, existing home sales registered an unexpected drop of 0.20% on a MoM basis in June, lower than market expectations for a rise of 0.10%. Existing home sales had registered a rise of 1.90% in the prior month.

RBA hints at further rate cuts if required

Minutes of the Reserve Bank of Australia’s (RBA) July monetary policy meeting indicated that the central bank is likely to lower its interest rates in the near future. Further, the RBA reiterated that the labour market developments would be measured as a main factor in the further easing of the monetary policy. Meanwhile, the policymakers would support the necessary growth in employment and income as well a gradual rise in underlying inflation.
