CLARIFICATION ANNOUNCEMENT

Reference is made to the announcement of Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (the " Company ") dated 14 August 2018 (the " Announcement ") in relation to capital contribution and deemed disposal of equity interest in SGS. Unless otherwise defined, capitalized terms used in this announcement has the same meanings as those defined in the Announcement.

 

The Company would like to clarify the following inadvertent typographical errors in the Announcement:

 

(i)

in the second paragraph to the subsection headed “Summary of Principal Terms of the Amended JV Agreement – Parties” on page 3, the sentence should read:

"To the best of the Directors’ knowledge, information and belief and having made all reasonable enquiry, Triplecores, IC SPACES and their ultimate beneficial owners are third parties independent of the Company and its connected persons."; and

 

(ii)

the sentence "The cash capital contribution from SMIC Holdings is intended to be funded through internal cash flow." in the second paragraph on page 4, should read: "The cash capital contribution from SMIC Holdings was funded through internal cash flow.".
