McDonald's Corp. (MCD) plans to open 200 new restaurants across the Nordics in the next 10 years as it targets an extra 50 million customers annually in the region, the company said Tuesday.

The U.S. fast-food giant will open 200 new restaurants across Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland and plans to boost the number of guests it serves in the region to 200 million a year from the current 150 million.

The move will create 5,000 new jobs, it said.

"There has been healthy market growth across all countries, and we see great potential for growth across all four markets in the Nordic region," said Christer Aberg, Group CEO of McDonald's Nordic.

"We are ready to invest what is necessary to take advantage of that potential," he said.

At the same time, the company will continue to invest in upgrades of existing restaurants, including new services such as table service and the start of home delivery in Sweden during the spring.

McDonald's currently has around 430 restaurants in the Nordics, employing 20,000 people. Sales in the region totaled 1.2 billion euros ($1.48 billion) in 2017.
